A Portland Westside town guide

Hillsboro Guide

Hillsboro is in Washington County, west of Portland. When I want to be outside, I head to Jackson Bottom Wetlands Preserve, the largest of the town's parks and nature areas. It has picnic shelters, restrooms and open water. Rood Bridge Park is another favorite of mine, with tennis courts, a playground, picnic shelters and restrooms.

For a walk, I like the Rock Creek Trail, one of ten trails in Hillsboro. For a change from the outdoors, I go to the Shute Park Aquatic and Recreation Center, one of three pool and recreation centers in town. Hillsboro also has two libraries, so indoor options are easy to find.

Property taxes

From Property Tax Compare, worked out from the counties’ own records for tax year 2025-26.

A typical $600,000 home in Hillsboro pays about $5,100 a year in property taxes; most homes there, $4,650 to $5,500. A new home at that price starts at about $5,300 a year once fully taxed. Homes here are taxed at about 52% of their market value.

Estimates, not a tax bill or tax advice. A listing shows a particular home’s current bill, and in Oregon that bill stays with the house when it is sold.

Sources: the parks, trails, libraries, pools and recreation centers, golf courses and farmers markets come from OpenStreetMap, the map its contributors keep (as of 2026-10-12; sizes are worked out from its outlines). Population figures come from the U.S. Census Bureau’s city estimates. Schools, new homes and places for 55+ come from Jen’s compare sites. Checked 2026-10-12.
